Electric Brake Units
When you have a large trailer or caravan (gross trailer mass exceeds 750kgs), it is more than likely requires an additional braking system. Some trailers or caravans have mechanical brakes (either cable or standard hydraulic) or electric brakes.
When you have electric brakes on your trailer or caravan, and electric brake unit (EBU) is required to make them operate. EBU's work by sensing the brake signal and sending proportional signal to the trailer brakes via the trailer plug. The EBU is adjustable so the driver can get the correct brake feel when driving.
Our main units are listed below.
Low Voltage 12v Electric Brake Unit (LV1405)
This is a very competitively priced remote head style electric brake unit. The unit is solid state, can be mounted on any angle, has push override button which also turns to adjust sensitivity.
Hayman Reese Sentinel (5350)
This unit is solid state and can be fitted on any angle. It has a digital display and easy override function.
Some of our customers even replace the supplied bracket for strong Velcro. With the Velcro option, it makes it easy to remove the EBU when not in use, or to use it with another vehicle.
Redarc Tow Pro Classic (EBRH-V2)
This unit is a permanent fitting for your vehicle. It has easy adjustment, LED indicator and easy push override function.
It is also solid state and the main unit can be mounted on any angle. This unit is a replacement of the old EBRH.
Most popular choice of Redarc EBU's.
Redarc Tow-Pro™ Elite (EBRH-ACCV2)
The latest release from Redarc. It has superseded the original Tow-Pro™ (EBRH-ACC) and is a replacement for the Remote Head (EBRH) unit.
The Tow-Pro™ Elite offers selectable Automatic or User Controlled trailer braking modes allowing the user to choose the braking style depending on the road or terrain conditions, vehicle type, or driver preference.
The Tow-Pro™ Elite features Active Calibration which constantly monitors the direction oftravel removing the need for an initial calibration process, the unit will even calibrate with no trailer attached whilst maintaining the ability to mount in any orientation.
Adjustment is easy with an incremental dial, has a push override and LED indication in the switch controller.
This unit can be used with either 12 or 24 volt systems. The braking output is 12 volts.
Redarc Trailer Mount EBU (EBTM) & Low Voltage Trailer Mount EBU (LV1403)
This is not the most common EBU but does have its perks. When you have a trailer that will be towed by multiple vehicles, this unit eliminates the fitment of an EBU per vehicle. This unit does NOT have an override at all, due to it being independent to the vehicle.
We only recommend this unit when;
- multiple tow vehicles are involved
- power source in the trailer
- appropriate charging system to trailer battery
- when the gross trailer mass is less than 2000kg
